Eating for the Venus Effect
One of the keys in keeping your skin beautifully radiant all year long is proper nutrition. Eating foods filled with nutrients that enhance the Venus Effect
encourages your skin to glow. One of the best categories of foods you can eat for ideal hormonal balance is protein from plant sources. Foods that house the seed of the plant – are rich in these proteins and their benefits can be passed along to us. Most of the protein from plant sources is derived from the reproductive parts of the plant and is intimately associated with powerful molecules known as phytoestrogens
. The phytoestrogens in plants lower insulin resistance, enhance fertility and stimulate hormonal balance. A few examples include soybeans (e.g. edamame), chickpeas (e.g. hummus), seeds (e.g. flax or sunflower seeds), and nuts - all rich in protein and phytoestrogens.
Best of all, these foods are easy to access, make great snacks and stave off hunger, as protein, along with healthy fats, keeps us satisfied much longer than sugary or carb heavy alternatives! One of our personal favorites is hummus with whole-wheat pita or, even better, thick slices of cucumber. Edamame hummus is a great twist as well.
Traditional Hummus Recipe
- 1 can (15oz.) of garbanzo beans
- 2 tbsp of Tahini
- 1 garlic clove, crushed
- 2 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- ½ tsp salt
Combine garbanzo beans, garlic, cumin and salt in a food processor. Process until smooth. Drizzle olive oil and add reserved bean liquid slowly while processing until oil is fully incorporated in the hummus. Season to taste and serve.
Edamame Hummus Recipe
- 1 cup cooked edamame
- 1/4 cup tahini
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 garlic clove, peeled
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- salt, to taste
Combine edamame, lemon juice, garlic, tahini in a food processor. Process until smooth. Drizzle olive oil, continuing to process until oil is fully incorporated in the hummus. Season to taste and serve.
